He currently serves as President of the Malaysian Book Publishers Association (MABOPA) and Chair of the Malaysian Book Industry Chamber (MBIC). At the regional level, he is the President of the ASEAN Book Publishers Association (ABPA), where he actively promotes cross-border partnerships and industry development. Internationally, he was recently elected to the Executive Committee of the International Publishers Association (IPA), further strengthening Malaysia’s voice in global publishing discourse.

Shake played a key role in Kuala Lumpur’s successful bid to become UNESCO World Book Capital 2020, contributing to the city’s recognition as a global centre for books and reading. He continues to contribute to international knowledge initiatives as a consultant for cities aspiring to join UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities, and has advised and consulted Malaysian cities, including Petaling Jaya and Iskandar Puteri, in achieving recognition as UNESCO Learning Cities.

Driven by a deep passion for books, culture, and lifelong learning, Shake is currently leading Malaysia’s efforts in hosting the 35th International Publishers Congress, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur in July 2026 under the theme “Publishing Intelligence: Sustaining Forward.”
