Diljit Singh retired from the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he served for 19+ years.

He has also served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Philippines Diliman in Manila, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.

Prior to joining the university, Diljit served as a secondary school teacher in Kuantan Pahang, as Assistant Director in the Pahang State Education Department, and at the Aminuddin Baki Institute, Ministry of Education, Malaysia.

Diljit holds a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma in Education from the University of Malaya, and a Master of Science (M.S.) and a Ph.D. from Florida State University, USA.

He currently serves on the Editorial Boards / Committees of 3 international journals – the IFLA Journal, Global Knowledge, Memory & Communications (formerly known as Library Review), and School Libraries Worldwide. 

Diljit is also active in library associations at the local and international levels.

At the local level, he is the Chair of the Research Committee, Librarians’ Association of Malaysia, and has previously served in the School Libraries Committee.

At the international level, he is the Immediate Past President of the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL). He has also served on the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions’ (IFLA) Standing Committees for Asia-Oceania, and the Section for School Libraries.

He is currently a member of Library Theory and Research (LTR) Section, the Building Strong LIS Education (BSLISE) Working Group, and the Library and Information Science Education in Developing Countries (LISEDC) Special Interest Group.

His professional and research interests include information literacy, management of libraries and information services, school libraries, and LIS education. He also has a keen interest in the effective and efficient use of information for socio-economic development.
