Young learners today are increasingly exposed to English through audio-visual platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, with limited engagement in formal reading. This has led to reduced familiarity with structured writing, often resulting in overly informal language and errors in capitalisation and punctuation, alongside greater exposure to misinformation. Traditional newspapers are also perceived as inaccessible and unengaging.
This session addresses these challenges through NewsBites, offering curated, visually engaging reading materials to strengthen reading habits, improve writing proficiency, and develop critical thinking among digital-native learners.
