Description
:
The book consists of 186 cartoons mainly focusing on the 1MDB scandal and RM2.6 billion 'donation' in private bank accounts. More importantly, the artworks are a visual language showing the connection between corruption and the rising of people's cost of living.
About Author Zunar (Zulkiflee Sm Anwar Ulhaque) is a political cartoonist from Malaysia. With slogan, “How Can I be Neutral, Even My Pen Has a Stand”, he exposes corruption and abuse of power committed by the government of Malaysia through his art. Zunar is the only Malaysian selected by Amnesty International as the first Malaysian for their biggest annual international campaign, ‘Write for Rights (#W4R) 2015'. After my arrest under The Sedition Act during my exhibition in Penang on November 2016, Malaysian Chief Police Khalid Abu Bakar in a press conference told journalists that I should not draw cartoons insulting the Prime Minister and his wife. Asked by a reporter "Then what should Zunar draw?". Khalid replied, "Zunar can draw Donald Duck." As an obedient citizen, I followed his instruction. On the 5th of December 2016, I came out with this cartoon. "Donald Dedak & Mickey MAH. I was arrested again a week later, for Detrimental to Parliamentary Democracy."
