Dr. Susan M.K. Tan is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist who has extensive experience in public and private practice. As a junior doctor she served in public practice in Malaysia and was awarded the Excellent Service Award whilst working in Terengganu. She also served in the National Health Service, United Kingdom as a Senior House Officer for 2 years. Upon returning to Malaysia, she trained to specialize in Psychiatry and then in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry whilst working as a lecturer in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

She received international fellowships, from The University of Melbourne-Harvard Medical School Leadership Program in International Mental Health,(2001), the Donald J.Cohen Fellowship for International Scholars (2006) awarded by the International Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) and was also a fellow whilst attached to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney, Australia in 2003 during her sub-speciality training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Susan has mentored numerous young doctors, in participating in numerous research projects. She published in various peer-reviewed journals and was invited to be a lead writer in the Free on-line textbook, IACAPAP Textbook of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, in the Chapter entitled:  ‘Early Maltreatment and Exposure to Violence’ (latest 2015 Edition with chapter translated into French). 

She was elected as a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Malaysia in 2015. She is a member of numerous international and national associations such as the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, The World Psychiatric Association Section on Psychiatry in Developing Countries (WPA-SPDC). She  is a  Member of The international Special Interest Study Group (SISG) on Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Psychiatry, World Psychiatric Association, Child  and Adolescent Psychiatry WPA CAP Group on Teaching and Learning. She is also a member of Malaysian professional bodies such as Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), Malaysian Psychiatric Association (MPA), Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, Malaysian Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists Association (MyCAPs) and National Early Childhood Intervention Council (NECIC)

She was a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in Psychiatry as well as a past head of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit up until 2015, in the Medical Faculty, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Dr. Susan Tan is passionate about helping children and young people ‘bloom’ and enjoy their childhood, by building resilience to whatever adversities life throws at them, including the Covid-19 Pandemic.  She practices in ParkCity Medical Center.
