The Latest Trend on Online Education in USA (by Xuan You)

The Virtual High School (VHS, Inc.) is an online learning pioneer in United States. Since 1996, the non-profit organization has set the standard for quality online education. VHS partners with schools to expand course offerings for middle and high school students. Students choose from more than 200 unique courses including 23 AP® options, core courses, engaging electives, credit recovery, and other formal and informal learning opportunities. The Virtual High School is accredited by both Middle States Association Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS), and AdvancED. Courses are approved for initial eligibility by NCAA.

Xuan You will share the latest trend about online education, discuss VHS' 20+ years of experience supporting schools, teachers and students, introduce how online course works, do a summer course demo, provide suggestions on how to prepare for college in US and answer your questions.

21st Century Pedagogical Skills in Online Virtual Education 4.0 (by Keith Thong)

21st Century Online Virtual Education focuses on the notion that teaching is evolving int his rapidly changing world of education and that the latest developments pertaining to 21st Century Pedagogical Skills in Education should be a crucial priority for all policy makers, researchers and practitioners. The digital era has also raised further concerns among practinioers in finding new strategies in teaching, so as to move away from the traditional method to a more ICT-based approach. This shift provides a greater platform in empowering the learner and also learner autonomy, which is one of the elements of 21st Century education. This presentation aims to share some latest innovations and best classroom practices in Online Virtual teaching and learning, in accordance with the 21st Century education conceptual framework. The core content, which includes English Central, Velawoods English, Gamebooks, and IGCSE/A-Levels (UK) Virtual Academy provides platforms of effective practical approaches and strategies aligned to the hope of finding common grounds in enhancing contextualized Englisg language teaching pertaining to 21st Century Pedagogical Skills in English Language Education 4.0.

She develops strategic partnerships internationally, to provide students and teachers with collaborative and engaging learning opportunities. She works closely with administrators, teachers and students from 70 international partner schools around the world and 600+ schools in US. She speaks and facilitates discussions about online education at international education conferences. She lived, studied and worked in Asia, Europe and United States. Currently, she lives in Boston with her husband and two kids.

Keith Thong obtained his academic qualifications from the UK in the field of strategic business management in education. He has vast experience in Education software and hardware development for classroom practitioners from pre-school to tertiary education. He has been involved in various ELT projects and programmes in Asia, particularly digital innovations and practices and often been invited to present in seminars and conferences across Asia and Europe. His interest includes, developing contextualised digital ELT resources for the learners and practitioners aligned to the elements in Education 4.0 in making learning and teaching individualised and personalised through empowerment. Currently, Keith Thong is the Managing Director of UBS Malaysia and holds the positions of President, Malaysian Booksellers Association (MBA) and Deputy Chairman, Malaysian Book Industry Chamber (MBIC).
