She is a Sabahan secondary school English Language teacher with 13 years of teaching experience who has served in various responsibilities held from school to national levels. Her love for Literature started during her degree course in University Putra Malaysia, Selangor as she found the course to be gripping yet engaging at the same time. The critical thought process and the exchange of deep reasoning during classroom dialogue inspired her to bring the same, yet in a much lighter, vibe into her classrooms. In 2019, her collaborative project with her students, “I Stand For” English Speak Up Program, was among the Top 10 Design for Change Malaysia school projects selected to present at ICAN Global Children Summit in Rome, Italy. In 2020, she was awarded Malaysia government postgraduate scholarship (Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan) and is currently studying in University Malaysia Sabah. Her Master research taps into the awareness of questioning and advocacy in classroom dialogue. She argues that understanding the systemic communication between teachers and students can be a threshold to transcend from teacher- or learner- centred teaching to learning partnership paradigm especially in upper secondary school classrooms. Selected for Excellent Teacher for English from the Ministry of Education Malaysia in 2021, Laurence who loves questioning, reading books and listening to Dr. Jordan B. Peterson's Youtube videos, is also a member of MELTA- SIG and a chartered member of UMS Toastmasters Club. |
